“Don’t Get Mugged by an Insurer!” says The Law Society

The Law Society has unveiled a new campaign to inform people of the benefits of instructing a solicitor in a personal injury claim, rather than taking the first offer made by insurers.

It is often the case that insurers will make an offer to settle a claim which will seem immediately tempting to accept. However, the message from The Law Society is that you might get a much better deal if you take advice from a solicitor.

Accident victims are often placed in situations which, through no fault of their own, mean that they cannot work for a length of time – or that they need expensive medication and assistance. Qualified personal injury solicitors work to ensure that their clients are not short-changed and that they receive the correct amount of compensation for their injuries and expenses.

According to the Financial Services Authority, if accident victims consult a solicitor, they could receive two or three times the amount initially offered by insurers – which has prompted The Law Society to act.

Our experience at NW Law is that we have never failed to beat the initial offer that has been made directly by an insurer to a claimant, prior to our involvement.

One recent example is of an offer was made directly to an accident victim by an insurer for £1000 to settle his claim. At first glance, this would appear to be a good result – and an offer that many people would accept – which is exactly what the insurers hope will happen!

However, upon contacting us, we advised that the offer seemed low – and was probably designed to close the case as soon as possible. Our client refused their offer and with our help, he ended up receiving £3000 in compensation – quite the difference!

The “Don’t Get Mugged by an Insurer” campaign by The Law Society takes a striking and humorous approach to pass on the message to the public and will be appearing on railway station billboards, on trains, online and in the local media.

As well as informing of the benefits of speaking to a solicitor, members of the public are also directed to advice on how to pursue a claim and a description of the process that takes place.

The advice from The Law Society is that, If you’ve had an accident or injury, think twice before you say ‘yes’ to the first compensation payment that you are offered  - and speak to a solicitor.

NW Law’s qualified solicitors are experts in their field and they will fight to ensure that YOU don’t get mugged by an insurer.
